BACKGROUND

International Home + Housewares Show 2019 | CHICAGO

SodaStream is the world’s largest manufacturer, distributor and marketer of Home Carbonation Systems. Their products are sold in over 50,000 retail stores in 42 countries worldwide, including in home & electrical appliance stores, supermarkets, department stores, DIY, specialty and “green” stores, water specialists & dealers, as well as online and in catalogs .The SodaStream system allows consumers to carbonate water and flavor their carbonated beverages at home,as an alternative to purchasing pre-packed bottles or cans. For IHA 2019, SodaStream’s marketing team’s goal was to convince their booth’s visitors that SodaStream is the ULTIMATE “must have” kitchen appliance, conveying their “stronger than ever” message: ‘Good for you = Good for the planet’ and ‘on the go bottle saves the bubbles and saves the planet.’

CHALLENGE

‘Saving the planet’ themes are always popular at exhibitions but not that simple to apply and merge into the
exhibiting brand’s booth. Designing an environmentally friendly and functional exhibition space wasn’t enough;

The challenge was to draw and engage with booth visitors for brand awareness and further on to product buying, while
“educating” them and conveying the brand’s message that SodaStream bottles are exactly what they need without
over shadowing the main ongoing brand positioning on health and wellness.

SOLUTION

SodaStream’s booth was a true refresher, as it is every year, on the IHA show floor. Two focal points were designed
for this booth: a major bar for demos and purchasing and a main seating lounge decorated with a HUGE SodaStream
bottle hanging from the ceiling, emphasizing the brand’s storytelling of health wellness through water.

To grab visitor attention and create buzz, we designed a VR room offering a ‘collecting bottles from the ocean’ game. Outside the room, we placed a large cage of plastic bottles to emphasize the significance of how much plastic can be reduced from the planet by consumers in exchange for using 1 SodaStream bottle.

Better for the environment was not only the design concept through natural elements, materials and graphics, but it was the brand’s marketing strategy to create true visitor engagement and experience.
